UhakMate Education Counselling
My first
experience with Nova Scotia was the tour with group of prospective nominees for
Investment Immigration of Province Nominee Program in 2003. I was traveling as
interpreter for the Province Nominee Program with the Korean applicants. I still
clearly remember the thought that I had, while I was participating the seminar
given by Halifax Regional Development Center. The people here in Nova Scotia
certainly value the education and really care about their education system.
After I came back
to Korea, I started study abroad consulting business in Korea in 2003. From
that experience I thought that the province of Nova Scotia will be such a desirable
destination for future steps for Korean young students’ study abroad. That
thought became convinced with my hands-on working experience with Nova Scotia
Public School Board and other educational institutions in Nova Scotia. Since
2005 I have been working with Nova Scotia Public School Board and education
institutions in Nova Scotia. I have visited Nova Scotia couple of time by
myself, which was in 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2014. During the last 10 years of working
experience as a study abroad consultant, I can proudly say that I have been
confidently recommending the Nova Scotia educational programs to our
prospective students with all my heart. I have tried to establish solid
business relationship with the members of Nova Scotia International Student
Program and I think I have laid the ground work for cooperative business
development with Nova Scotia Public School Board.
The programs I
would like to develop here in Halifax are as follow:
l Establish
counseling center for Korean and International students in Nova Scotia for
their further study
l Can
make the full use of the business network that I have been developed in the
area of study abroad consulting in Korea
l Actively
promote NSISP to Korean market and bring more students to Nova Scotia
l Actively
promote Nova Scotia Education Immersion Program to prospective student teachers
in Korea and bring more student teachers to Nova Scotia
l Continuously
strengthening online marketing activities toward Korean students by developing
the informative webpage of Nova Scotia Educational Programs - www.novascotia.kr www.uhakmate.co.kr
l Develop
local support center for housing for International students in Nova Scotia
l Provide
settlement service for the prospective families who wants to move into Nova
Scotia for their children’s long-term study abroad.
I want that more Korean students know about
Nova Scotia educational programs when they think about study abroad to Canada. Sometimes
even agencies also do not have much information about Nova Scotia. They briefly
know about that Canada has very high standard of public education system, but
the cities they familiar with in Canada are just Vancouver and Toronto,
sometimes Calgary and Ottawa. I think, if parents and students have information
about Nova Scotia and Halifax, they are likely to choose it for their study
abroad destination. I am planning to
strengthen my business relationship with Nova Scotia educational institutions
as well as study abroad agencies in Korea. I am going to actively promote the
established study abroad programs into the Korean market including ESL, College
Program, Education Immersion Program, Public School Board Walk-in Student
Program, and the NSISP Program.
I hope my personal living experience in Nova Scotia will
open new business opportunities for me and the local community both.
Through my direct life experience in Nova Scotia, I would like to introduce the
province to more Korean prospective students and families who have plan to come
to Canada for their study, travel and living. I am always happy to be a non-official ambassador of Nova
Scotia. This year I moved to Halifax as a landed immigrant and it makes me possible to give direct support for our students and clients.
